Who We Are

We sowed our first seeds in 2018 and currently grow a variety of produce within three greenhouses, totaling 6,400 square feet, as well as three substantial outdoor garden areas. We implement organic farming practices and follow a more considerate integrated pest management plan.

We donated 5,128 pounds of produce in 2021.

The goal for 2022 is to produce over 10,000 pounds of produce.

Thank you to our supporters and partners, especially The Bulb!

Educational Opportunities

We are an educational, non-profit farm and enjoy sharing our knowledge. We seek to empower children and their families to understand fresh food choices and methods to grow their own at home.

Basket Case Farms strives to meet the individual needs of all those who want to experience on-site education. We enjoy working with teachers and instructors to develop specialized on-site learning experiences that help students further grasp curriculum content.

A main goal will always be implementing studied practices and maximizing growth. Our staff is passionate about offering free education services. We enjoy our interactions with current partners and on-site visitors.

Growing leafy greens is a focus within our smaller greenhouse. We currently have 18 A-frame style hydroponic racks growing our lettuce without soil in a nutrient-rich water solution. The result: over 2,000 heads of lettuce following their prescribed growth cycle.

Through education efforts, Basket Case Farms helps community members learn how they can be self-sufficient. Our local partnerships within the community include donating grown food and offering educational experiences on how to implement sustainable practices at home.

People Need Their Greens!

Parris Island Romaine is our favorite lettuce to grow hydroponically.

How long is the grow cycle for a head of lettuce?

65 days.

In addition to the lettuce, we grow flowering plants including:

  • Tomatoes

  • Cucumbers

  • Squash

  • Peppers

  • Strawberries

We grow these using five different types of hydroponics:

  • Deep Water Culture

  • Kratky Style

  • Dutch Bucket

  • Vertical Tower

  • Nutrient Film Technique
