Honeybees

Honeybees

We have added honeybees to the farm.

Bees are important to our environment.  They provide pollination for food crops and wild plants. Honeybees travel incredible distances to look for pollen. It is because of these long journeys that fertilization takes place between food crops.

And, of course, they produce honey. Honeybees carry the nectar from plants back to the hive. They mix the nectar with their saliva in a cell to produce honey.

Basket Case Farms acquired 2 hives of bees – one with 35,000 bees and one with 25,000 bees. They will begin producing 50 pounds of honey annually that we will donate to the community.
